Boston New Technology Meetup BNT15

I have been trying to get involved in the Startup community in the Boston area so I have been attending a bunch of Meetups. Tonight was the march meetup of the Boston New Technology Meetup.

The agenda was for 7 startups to present their products.

  1. Idea SuperCollider - Social Network for Ideas and the People who have them (Bill Zimmer / @WLZimmer) http://ideasupercollider.comTrying to link a mind model with social media, didn't really see the business model.
  2. Rejoiner / @RejoinerApp - Helps online businesses track and recover abandoned orders (Mike Arsenault / @MikeArsenault) http://rejoiner.comI think they have a nice little niche play
  3. Dyn / @DynInc - Managed DNS and Email Delivery - Infrastructure-as-a-Service, and how to visualize it in action (Cory Van Wallenstein / @CVonWallenstein) http://dyn.com Who knew dyn did emails? They help people create non-spammy emails
  4. PointKnown / @PointKnown - PKNail Pro captures building floor plans and BIM models digitally @10X Speed (Jim Foster) http://pointknown.com Drive autodesk from a laser measure, cool idea.
  5. GivingSomeThing / @GivingSomeThing - Enables #nonprofit supporters to easily send real goods to nonprofits online (Mike Stone) http://www.givingsomething.com Not sure why buying something and giving it to charity is better than giving the charity the money? Interesting to fund this with the Amazon affiliate payments
  6. HelpScout / @HelpScout - Empowers companies to deliver out of this world, scalable customer service (Nick Francis / @NickFrancis) http://www.helpscout.net Possibly another nice little niche play
  7. NUODB / @NUODB - Cloud database that uniquely delivers SQL, ACID transactions & elastic scalability (Adam Abrevaya) http://www.nuodb.com The presentation was too good to be true. Linear scaling in real time? I think the data is probably not realistic. Having said that even if they can get half of what they are claiming it would be a huge plus for SQL
Overall a pretty interesting evening. There was a good turnout too, probably a close to 200 people.
